E had his VERY FIRST (yes, that's correct 1st ever) well baby visit. And lest anyone think we are negligent, he's been to a chiropractor/cranial sacral therapist/applied kinesiologist 1x or 2x per month since he was 10 days old. Yes, chiropractors are doctors and they know a lot about how the body works. And now I know why we've never taken him to a well baby visit before. It really was a waste of time (weight, measurements, look in ears, nose, throat, ask what he's eating, really?). He's small, but smart. Great, thanks. He's actually not small at all, the charts are just distorted. But yes he is very smart.
And well...baby, I felt violated for you when they took your temp rectally, and then almost cried with you when I later changed your cloth diaper and you had a rash from whatever nasty lube they used. Yuck, completely unnecessary. I took your temp with our temporal thermometer before we left and got the exact same temp, hmm, so much for rectal being most accurate.
On a brighter note, E had a great visit with the lovely Dr. Rebecca (one of our chiro/CST's). He woke up with a snotty nose (his 1st ever!). He probably picked it up at the well baby visit. Anyway, Dr. Rebecca did cranial work and gave us some essential oils and recommended an apple cider vinegar bath. Wow, this baby slept better than he has in months, and the snotty nose is on its way out! Yay, for NATURAL medicine! And glory to God Who provided everything our bodies need for healing!!

Sorry to hear about your experience. Where did you go? Lucas and I both see the same Family Practioner & I absolutely LOVE her! The Well Care visits are the perfect opportunity for me to ask questions - anything that has been on my mind (big or small). She is very non-judgemental and really advocates for me to base my decisions on what I have peace with. Ken and I weren't sure about vaccinations at our last visit, and she was such a blessings. She walked us through all the options and really supported our decision to use Dr. Sears' Alternative Schedule for vaccinations. Cindi & Destinee Bridges see the same physician. I'd be happy to refer you if you ever need another option! Regarding your natural options for care, I'd be interested to know if you have anything besides cornstarch that helps with diaper rash?! Let's get together to chat when you have some time...
Jenna, we went to a ped who was recommended on an AP board, and she was actually a very cool lady. She didn't even ask about vaxing. It wasn't her; it was just the whole process that seemed like a waste to me. I think it's b/c we have a really great relationship already established with our chiros/CST's and I can ask all types of ??s like I would a ped...
So glad you found a great Family Practitioner!
I stayed away from cornstarch personally b/c I had an unnatural fear of thrush when E was tiny. We use pure unrefined coconut oil and LOTS of diaper free time. Air is the only thing that seems to work for his sensitive skin. Good thing we have all hard wood floors esp now that he's crawling and will be walking soon! He goes in the potty after I take off his diaper, but sometimes I let him crawl around diaper free and he pees again. Yes, let's get together. I'll send you a fb message.
